Who is Building the Metaverse: An Ultimate List of Metaverses

The word “metaverse” has been on the tongues of experts and in the headlines of endless posts on the Internet lately. Mark Zuckerberg, for example, defined this phenomenon as “the embodied Internet, where instead of looking at the Internet, the user is directly in it.”

The meta world unites the physical and digital worlds, synthesizing some additional dimension, a single digital whole, where open and closed platforms, sites, social networks, messengers, games, and applications are intertwined. But who is building a metaverse? Read further to find out!

META

Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to create his own Metaworld in July 2021, and in October, he renamed his company Meta. He sees the future of the Internet (for the next five years) as a “full-fledged virtual world for work, entertainment, and communication, in which users feel the physical presence of each other.” Zuckerberg and the developers he hired have at their disposal the social networks Facebook, Instagram, and messenger WhatsApp, which, together with VR projects, will form the basis of the universe.

For this purpose, Facebook in its time, acquired Oculus, a company engaged in VR technology, and in September 2020, has already presented a joint project Infinite Office, which allows you to work from home through the Oculus Quest 2 headset. Horizon, a virtual environment that uses eye tracking, face tracking, and human movement to create realistic avatars, was another key VR project for Meta.

Microsoft

Microsoft is preparing an “enterprise metadiverse” that will be based on Azure cloud resources. Teams messenger will be used as the basis for creating a global space. By extending its toolset and adding mixed reality functionality, the developers will enable users to create virtual avatars and immersive workspaces. 250 million users of the platform will access the meta universe.

There are two modes of corporate space – Together Mode and Presenter View. The first one is essentially a “meeting of the work collective”, the second one is a “solo” performance of one speaker in front of the audience.

Access to the meta universe via Teams is expected to open in the first half of 2022. Xbox games will also be a great help for Microsoft in creating a global space.

All that remains is to turn them into fully-fledged three-dimensional worlds and combine them with the rest of the company’s products.

Fortnite

Epic Games’ Fortnite game became a meta-universe when it was not yet mainstream. It has long been more than just a game, but a platform for communication and all sorts of activities and events.

For example, rapper Travis Scott held a concert here, which was watched by more than 12 million users at the same time. Weezer organized the presentation of the new album in Fortnite, and Disney showed an excerpt from the ninth episode of “Star Wars.” In collaboration with global brands, Epic Games often changes the game’s style and internal objects.

At the same time, users can create their own content (such as costumes, game mechanics, and even worlds) in Fortnite with a creative mode and monetize it. It is known that in April 2021, Epic Games raised $ 1 billion in investment, which will spend on the development of the meta universe.

Sensorium Galaxy

The Sensorium Galaxy meta-universe, being developed by Mikhail Prokhorov’s company, is a social VR platform with game elements. Users can create their own avatars and travel around virtual worlds in a Starship. Currently, there are two worlds in the universe – the underwater and meditative Motion, as well as the musical one – Prism, where users can enjoy virtual performances by famous musicians. The metaworld also includes the Mubert service, which uses AI technology to generate streams of constantly changing music. It is known that beta testing of the virtual worlds began in April 2021, and the mobile application began this fall.

Decentraland

It’s a single Metaverse layer that’s been divided into a grid in an even manner. Each coordinate is given the name LAND. Every LAND parcel is the same size and has the same restrictions. By combining their colliding LAND, users can create Estates. Users can create districts to help them coordinate their efforts, and these districts can function independently as businesses.

There is a limited amount of LAND available, and it can only be created if the community asks for it through the Decentraland DAO. The world was opened on February 20, 2020. Esteban Ordano and Ari Merlich, two highly experienced blockchain and high-end technology experts, were instrumental in the concept’s development and promotion.

The Decentraland Foundation is a new organization dedicated to listening to community needs. Argentina is home to the majority of the team.

This project has spent a significant amount of time and effort forming partnerships and collaborations with leading blockchain and crypto projects around the world, there are already a number of virtual headquarters in place, with more to follow in the coming months.

They have an erc20 token called Decentraland MANA ($MANA) that is the most powerful of all the platforms and is traded on the most well-known exchanges.

CryptoVoxels

It’s a single Metaverse layer that’s been haphazardly divided into plots and islands. The main island, Origin City, has a limited supply of parcels. Their team is constantly creating new islands and parcels in order to fund the project. In terms of size and constraints, each plot is unique. The world was wide open in July of this year.

The project was started from the ground up by this New Zealand entrepreneur, who now has a team assisting him in realizing his vision. They are very active listeners on Discord and Twitter. If you want to be inspired quickly, go to CryptoVoxels. In the year 2020, cryptoartists from all over the world took control of the platform, creating mind-blowing content.

There are numerous art galleries all over the world, and the community is vibrant. This project has had the best boarding experience on Crypto-Metaverse so far. There are numerous art and business-related events taking place around the world, but there is no centralized way to keep track of them, instead, you must follow each micro community individually. They don’t have any money on them. It has a small wearable economy, but due to Ethereum gas fees, the creation of new tokens has been shut down several times, making it difficult for creators to generate consistent revenue.

Somnium Space

High-end devices are the focus of this project. It’s a single Metaverse layer that’s been unevenly divided into different plots along an already-created map that includes some islands. In terms of size and constraints, each plot is unique. The team will occasionally release new land.

Serial entrepreneur Artur Sychov funded the project, which began with a very successful IndieGoGo campaign back in the day. Based in Prague, a beautiful city in Europe’s heartland.

The stunning image rendering is the project’s main selling point. If you have a high-end VR device, Somnium is for you. The community on their Discord is small but warm, and they are very active and welcoming.

They also have a page dedicated to events, where they can keep track of all the events. There are art galleries and private land on the premises. A Somnium Builder works really well; it’s similar to the Sims building creator tool and allows you to make your own place out of pre-generated assets. There is a Unity SDK for Somnium in development, but no date has been set for its release.

Solana

Solana is a brand-new platform.  Solana’s ecosystem and platform have continued to grow since then, resulting in massive price increases. Solana is a town with a lot to offer. Solana has been dubbed an Ethereum competitor due to its smart contract capabilities and DeFi applications.

Solana has a thriving ecosystem, with dozens of dApps and Metaverse projects launching on the platform. Solana’s most popular dApps include Raydium, FTX, Magic Eden, Orca, and others. Solana’s ecosystem is constantly growing, with new games being released on its platform on a daily basis.

IoTeX

As the name implies, IoTeX is a scalable and privacy-focused blockchain infrastructure for the Internet of Things. IOTX is the native token of the IoTeX blockchain, which powers the network.

The IoTeX ecosystem is made up of hundreds of exchanges, wallets, and other unique projects.

IoTeX makes the IoPay Web3.0 wallet available on Android and iOS devices. IoPay makes it easy for anyone to participate in the IoTeX ecosystem.

WAX (Worldwide Asset Exchange)

WAX is one of the most popular platforms for Metaverse crypto projects. The entire blockchain was built with crypto gaming in mind, and it integrates with dApps and GameFi projects seamlessly.

Atomic Hub is one of the most active NFT marketplaces in crypto, and is used by the majority of WAX-based games.

One of the most popular crypto games, Alien Worlds, is now available on the WAX blockchain. With over 1.4 million users in the last 30 days, Alien Worlds is the second most popular dApp on the market, followed by PancakeSwap.
